Björn Kleinhenz - The Fall of Discontent

Physical Street Date: March 13, 2012
Digital Release Date: April 17, 2012
Art: Simon Rydén

The new release from Björn Kleinhenz first came about through a photo project with photographer Simon Rydén. Björn and Simon spent a day on the industrial estate Ringön just outside of the city center in Göteborg, Sweden. A scrappy shack was built and a several hour long roleplay took place in which Björn and Simon interacted through Simon's camera.

The images from this session turned out to be so special that the urge to do something more arose. Consequently Björn started recording the album The Fall of Discontent, the focus being simplicity. During recording he read books by Thomas Bernhard, Erik Satie and Werner Herzog. Using only his voice and a nylon string guitar, Björn put down a collection of nice songs, some old and some new. The naked versions of the songs was a way for Björn to try and figure out whether they could stand alone, just being songs. Or as he says himself: - To have the courage to sink with ones eyes open.

The physical version is packed in a beautiful handmade 800 g cardboard box containing a photo book with photographs by Simon Rydén, a CD with the nine new recordings packed in a hand-sewn paper sleeve, three photographs packed in brown paper bag, a drawing of a machine, an explanatory letter, and one piece of coal from fireplace packed in zip lock plastic bag. This edition is limited to 100 very handmade copies. Prices including shipping are 20 Euros (Europe), 200 SEK (Sweden), and 30 USD (United States / Canada). To order, email bjornkleinhenz[at]gmail(dot)com for instructions.
