Guma

Biography

Guma is the project of Austin-based T.J. Masters. Educated as a psychologist but trained as a sound engineer, he has spent the last decade-plus trying to subtly stifle his own ego for both professional and personal ends.

The first Guma record (originally recorded in 2016, remastered and released on vinyl in 2021) was Masters’s first solo endeavor after performing and touring in NYC’s critically acclaimed Conveyor. After moving to Texas, he delved into restoring vintage motorcycles, raising chickens, and building furniture while volunteering at Austin’s community radio station, 91.7FM KOOP, and eventually earning his own slot on the program schedule. In 2017, the second self-titled Guma album was recorded at Chris Schlarb’s Long Beach studio and released in 2019.
